How Far Is Bryce Canyon From Las Vegas?
Bryce Canyon National Park is about 270 miles from Las Vegas — roughly a 4 to 4.5 hour drive northeast, mostly up Interstate 15. That’s a notably longer haul than Zion (about 160 miles), and the last hour climbs from desert floor to a rim sitting above 8,000 feet, so plan for a half-day behind the wheel rather than a quick morning run.
The drive, step by step
From Las Vegas you take I-15 North for roughly 250 miles, passing St. George and Cedar City, Utah. Just past Cedar City you exit at UT-20 (exit 95) and cut east for about 20 miles, then turn south on US-89. Finally you pick up UT-12 East, the spectacular Scenic Byway 12, which carries you the last 14 miles to the park entrance near Bryce Canyon City. Two highways, a couple of turns, and steadily rising elevation the whole way — you gain nearly 6,000 feet of altitude between the Strip and the rim.
What most people get wrong: it’s a lot higher and colder than Vegas
Visitors plan for desert and arrive at an alpine plateau. Bryce Canyon’s rim sits between 8,000 and 9,100 feet — high enough that it can snow there in May or even June, and summer nights routinely drop into the 40s°F while Las Vegas is still in the 80s or 90s. Pack a real jacket no matter the season. The altitude also hits some people: take it easy on the rim trails your first hour, and drink more water than feels necessary.
Time zone: you lose an hour
Las Vegas runs on Pacific Time; Bryce Canyon is on Mountain Time, so you give up an hour the moment you cross into Utah. Leave Vegas at 8:00 a.m. expecting a 12:30 arrival and it’s actually 1:30 p.m. local. That matters for a same-day visit, because Bryce’s best light — and its emptiest viewpoints — come early morning and late afternoon. If you’re driving up from Vegas, an overnight stay near the park beats a brutal round-trip day.
Bryce vs. Zion from Vegas
Most Vegas road-trippers pair the two parks, and the geography makes it easy: Zion is about 160 miles away, Bryce another 70–80 miles past it. The smart move is Vegas → Zion → Bryce, not two separate out-and-backs. Zion to Bryce is only about 1.5 hours, so you see both in one loop instead of driving the I-15 corridor twice.
